Santa Ana - Halcones 110-96 The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Halcones (0-1) on the court of Santa Ana on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by Santa Ana 110-96. They made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Santa Ana had a 34-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. American center Marc Montavious (206-90, college: Georgetown, KY) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 21 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners and his fellow American import David Haye (190-94, college: Ramapo) chipped in 27 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Santa Ana players scored in double figures. At the losing side Dominican guard Pascual Medrano (183-93) responded with 47 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and American Timothy Jackson (198-93, college: Lindenwood-Bellev.) produced a double-double by scoring 29 points and 13 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Santa Ana is looking forward to face San Salvador (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Halcones will have a break next round. Isidro Metapan was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Cuban Osmel Oliva (180-87) nailed a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and Venezuelan-Colombian center Michael Hinestroza (208-90, college: UALR) accounted for 19 points and 7 rebounds. Nicaraguan center Bartel Lopez (213-89) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 18 rebounds and 6 blocks (made all of his ten free throws !!!) and naturalized Canadian Jose Colorado (188-90) added 23 points respectively for Isidro Metapan in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 88 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 38 and made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Santa Tecla forced 22 Chalchuapa turnovers and outrebounded them 48-37 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Santa Tecla looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. American Marcus Faison (196-94, college: Salem St.) fired a double-double by scoring 26 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners. Dominican Leandro Cabrera (190-88) chipped in 24 points and 6 rebounds. Four Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. American forward Jose Ortiz (190-90, college: Delaware Valley) produced 41 points (!!!) and the other American import forward Marcus Feagin (192-91) added 7 points and 19 rebounds respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Santa Tecla will meet Cojute (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Chalchuapa will play against Quezaltepeque and hope to win that game. Quezaltepeque had a 40-28 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of center Oreste Torres (202-87) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-91) contributed with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Quezaltepeque's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Colombian Michaell Jackson (190-87) answered with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 16 rebounds and Oscar Rivera (186-80) added 12 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for San Salvador. Four San Salvador players scored in double figures. Quezaltepeque's next round opponent will be Chalchuapa (#3) on the road, which may be the game of the day. San Salvador will play against Santa Ana and hope to win that game.
